Storm upgrades to Avid NEXIS and takes the leap with HDR

Storm Post Production future-proofs its facility with HDR, new Avid NEXIS and MediaCentral | Editorial Management systems from Altered Images

Refreshed with a new-look, Storm Post Production has upgraded to Avid NEXIS | PRO, complete with MediaCentral | Editorial Management, adapting its existing workflows to new technologies and providing a solid, consistent service for its clients. Storm’s impressive London facility is fully prepared for handling higher-resolution and HDR media, from ingest right through to delivery, with the new Avid products further improving production efficiency.

A finalist for ‘Best Post-Production House’ at this year’s Screen Awards and sponsors of the Grierson Documentary Awards, Storm is a multi-genre end-to-end post-production facility, speciailising in factual documentaries and entertainment programmes.

Delivering to UK and international broadcasters, such as BBC, Sky, Discovery and ITV, its client-base spans not only broadcast but also event cinema and branded content as well. Most recently, Storm has invested in new EIZO ColorEdge PROMINENCE (CG3145) HDR reference monitors for accurate grade and measurement of HDR content. Featuring three picture finishing suites and two audio studios, all fitted with 5.1 surround sound capabilities, plus 12 offline HD edit suites and dedicated QC suites, the facility delivers a completely integrated service with a tailored approach for its clients.

Storm’s new Avid MediaCentral | Editorial Management workflow management system, together with upgraded Avid NEXIS shared storage, has been installed and configured by Altered Images and has already boosted Storm’s productivity. It has provided editors and production teams with greater workflow integration and flexibility, notably being able to access and edit media remotely outside of the facility. Altered Images’ detailed knowledge of Avid systems meant it was able to provide a solution for Storm which slotted seamlessly into the company’s existing workflow.

MediaCentral | Editorial Management allows Storm’s clients to remotely access and edit rushes within the NEXIS storage via a standard internet browser. Not only does this enhance collaboration between the clients and editors, but also saves a great deal of time prior to the edit, allowing multiple users to share the same project sequences and bins.

“Our latest NEXIS and Editorial Management upgrade has really helped us streamline several processes and provide our customers with powerful tools to help satisfy their requirements and deliver content of a high-standard.” explained Jay Makwana, Storm’s Commercial Director. “As we approach an exciting New Year, we’re continuously looking for ways to develop and expand our capabilities in order to strengthen workflows and stay ahead of the curve.”
