Today we are heading for the storage stratosphere with installs routinely hitting 1PB and beyond. The exponential increase of file size and quantity, together with the ever-expanding variety of formats and hi-res codecs, has made high-performance media engineered storage essential. Security has leapfrogged many other industry concerns to arrive at the top of the list: now a prerequisite for doing business in post-production pipelines. Global delivery formats, a long-time fantasy for many organisations, will become a reality in 2019 with the broader adoption of the industry-changing IMF. Increases in internet speed and improvements in file-sharing technologies have continued to dissolve distance, making remote collaboration a viable option.
Embracing The Future: Announcing ‘EFS 2020’
Extracting complexity from your workflow. Improving security and bridging collaboration. It’s the fastest most secure platform in the Media and Entertainment Industry.
EFS distributed parallel file system is rapidly gaining worldwide adoption from the M&E community and is now central to operations at a wide range of facilities from TV stations to creative post studios to film houses, airline designers and rocket propulsion agencies. If it’s a digital media file, EFS will host it, handle it and secure it.
While the current EFS offers blazing performance, the forthcoming release ‘EFS 2020’ will take that even further – clients can expect to see up to 20% speed improvement.
New Flow 2020 features and capabilities shown at IBC2019 include:
Flow AI is a new AI-powered module featuring video (object/people) recognition and audio transcription services. With Flow AI, users can automate indexing of recognizable assets such as a celebrity or everyday objects as well as transcribe audio files into text-based transcriptions. The enriched video and audio assets can be easily and quickly searched and retrieved for use in production.
Flow News offers MOS integration for news environments, bridging the gap between the production team and the NRCS and playout, enabling faster and more efficient news workflows.
Flow’s impressive API gateway bridges collaboration and workflow across multi-vendor installations. New for IBC2019 is integration with Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl®.
Unlike generic IT storage systems, EditShare has written its own ultra-efficient drivers for EFS, for use with Windows, MacOS and Linux. EditShare manages the entire EFS 2020 technology stack from the file system to OS drivers, which means enterprise-level stability and faster video file transfers. Users can expect more real-time video streams, without the bottlenecks caused by legacy network protocols.
EFS 2020 File Auditing is the first and only real-time purpose-built content auditing platform for the entire production workflow. With high-profile media content theft on the rise, security is top of mind for media professionals. Designed to track all content movement on the server, including a deliberately obscured change, EFS 2020 File Auditing provides a complete, user-friendly activity report with a detailed trail back to the instigator. An important and timely addition to the EditShare production ecosystem, file auditing is an industry recommended and best practice security measure that ensures accountability by answering “who did what and when.”
Dont Forget there are many New Features in 2019 available now- including:
EFS ACL Media Spaces
An exciting new EFS storage capability is the Access Control List (ACL) Media Space. This feature was developed to satisfy organizations that manage storage using ACLs, instead of the simple, “read-only” or “read/write” rules that govern current EFS Media Spaces. With ACLs, all users typically mount a single “Media Space” and then, within that Media Space, a particular user can see into specific Active Directories (ADs) or not, depending on how the ACL is set on that directory for that user.
EFS File Auditing
Recent high profile content thefts at Sony Pictures, Netflix, and HBO were a wakeup call for the entire Media & Entertainment segment. EFS File Auditing answers the question, “Who did what, to which of my files, and when did they do it?”
EFS Performance Improvements
In the latest versions of EditShare storage, users will note many EFS performance improvementsincluding:
- Improved single stream READs and Writes between Single Node EFS storage and MacOSworkstations.
- Improved reading of file-per-frame content when making copies elsewhere.
- Improved movement of many files with MacOS workstations.
- Improved application of new storage goals to media spaces.

Marquis Broadcast releases Postflux for Adobe Premiere Pro
Postflux for Adobe® Premiere® Pro is a new, cutting-edge platform which improves the archiving, versioning, integrity, security, performance and sharing of Adobe Premiere Pro projects in extended workflows. It addresses the fundamental issue of being able to confidently share projects, thereby mitigating risks, improving productivity and efficiency whilst enabling new extended workflows.
Based on a client server architecture, individual editors have their own Postflux user logins. Postflux scans and analyses disorganised source project files and resolves all associated media. It then moves the project and media to a specified location, thus creating a new fully self-contained and organised Premiere Pro project. This makes exchanging Premiere projects simple and easy, plus allows the user to write to the most appropriate and pre-determined storage locations, whether on high-performance storage, removable storage or cloud.
